David joined the Department of Social Security in 1970 and initially worked as a Supervisor in a Benefit office in Glasgow. Operations Management in and around Glasgow was followed in 1983 by a move to Newcastle and a new focus in the Department’s Finance Branch.
Returning to Glasgow three years later David worked on a number of projects before becoming the Acting Director for the Benefits Agency in the West of Scotland. David oversaw the work to merge with the Employment Service to form Jobcentre Plus in 2002. Following the merger he worked as District Manager for Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire before moving to the equivalent post in Glasgow in 2007.
David became the Manager for the newly merged District of Glasgow, Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire in February 2011.
