Operating under the streamlining and delivery objectives of Glasgow Works, the purpose of the New Connections Team is to:
- Develop the capacity of intermediary (or non-employability) services to embed employability into their services and practice
- Develop the capacity of mainstream and specialist employability services to more effectively support Glasgow Works clients
- Develop and support new partnerships
- Identify gaps in existing service infrastructure and commission new services and/or re-align existing services to meet these gaps
- Inform policy development
How the team works with each service or organisation depends on the service but will principally centre around:
- Identifying their role around employability
- Developing assessment and recording systems so that employability activity can be evidenced.
- Delivering employability awareness to staff which includes: setting the context to employability developments in the UK, Scotland and Glasgow; recognising how employability fits within their service delivery and providing an opportunity to meet with local employability services.
- Developing performance management frameworks and targets.
Identifying how to strengthen links with employability services and their capacity to support Glasgow Works clients.
The team is currently working with a wide range of agencies including Glasgow Housing Association, Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS, Community Health and Care Partnerships, Glasgow City Council Social Work Services, GCC Education Services, GCC Development and Regeneration Services and the Scottish Prison Service.
The Team also supports the Employment Planning and Implementation Group.
