Ethnic Minorities

Ethnic Minorities

    It is estimated approximately 11% of the city population are from an ethnic minority background (compared to the 5% figure in the 2001 Census) and with a working age population of around 380,000. The Annual Population Survey indicates an employment rate of around 56% for Ethnic Minorities compared to 66% for the City as a whole.

    Glasgow Works Ethnic Minority (EM) Sub Group

    The aim of the sub-group is to advise organisations to influence a reduction in the EM employment gap in the city; reflecting the diverse nature of different EM groups, including gender differences, as well as the need to address EM employment at all levels of the labour market.

    The group has four main objectives;

    1. To benchmark activity using existing data and advise on actions to increase engagement at a local level;
    2. To monitor activity to ensure it is achieving the Glasgow Works objective to reduce the EM employability gap;
    3. To advise Glasgow Works on policy and best practice in relation to EM employability and build partnership working between Glasgow Works and EM organisations; and
    4. To support/advise organisations taking positive action to reduce the EM employment gap.
